Born and raised in Barry, Wales, twst (she/they) spent their early years working at their father’s
chicken factory. At 14, they left home and formal education, relocating to a recording studio in the South Wales Valleys. There, they immersed themselves in internet culture and taught themselves music production, laying the foundation for their distinctive sound.
twst’s debut EP, TWST0001, introduced them as a digital enigma—fusing subversive songwriting with a sharp focus on post-internet themes like online relationships, surveillance, and female empowerment. The project’s striking, immersive visuals deepened its impact, earning remixes from Clams Casino, AmPm, Joy Anonymous, and Hudson Mohawke. Widely praised, TWST0001 garnered support from tastemakers like Jack Saunders, Clara Amfo, and Annie Mac, with features in Paper Magazine, The Guardian, and more.
2024 proved to be a breakthrough year for twst with the launch of the TWST0002 (Upgraded) campaign. Its lead single became the soundtrack for Charli XCX’s BRAT launch party in London, where Charli featured it in her DJ set. The track gained momentum on TikTok and received strong support from Jaguar on BBC Radio 1, further amplifying twst’s presence.
Live performances cemented their growing reputation. They supported MØ at two sold-out shows, performed at major industry events like Focus Wales and Reeperbahn, and embarked on their first Asia tour where she also spent time writing with HYBE. Closing out the year, twst joined Laurel on a UK/EU tour, solidifying their status as a dynamic live act.
Looking ahead, twst is gearing up for a string of new releases in early 2025. Their live schedule is already filling up, with appearances set for SXSW (Texas) New Colossus (New York) Focus Wales , Premises Festival (Switzerland), and a UK tour in April supporting Orla Gartland.
