MISO EXTRA is as much an artistic figure as a retort to the racism that she experienced as a young female artist in the UK. She’s a fighter who wants to live in peace, but can fend for herself if necessary. A singer, rapper and producer whose art seems equally rooted in the present and in an uncertain future. While her debut EP ‘Great Taste’ (2022) was a stylish experiment nestling somewhere between hip house, Japanese rap and Shibuya-kei, last year’s follow-up ‘MSG’, given its name after the flavour enhancer for umami, is a logical continuation of the musical melting pot in the ‘Misoverse’. Inspired by J Dilla and MF Doom, Daft Punk and Kelis, the London rapper sets off on a trip into the unknown, taking her audience on the ride with her – and she’s performing here in September too.
