King Hannah

Craig Whittle had already come up with the name for this duo before he’d even met his future band mate Hannah Merrick. It wasn’t until Craig started working in a Liverpool bar in 2017 and was introduced to Hannah that the artistic pairing was born. The two of them soon began making music under the name King Hannah, releasing the EP “Tell Me Your Mind And I’ll Tell You Mine” (2020) and performing at the Reeperbahn Festival and elsewhere. Word of mouth rather than streaming hype has been spreading the word about these two creative spirits. They combine alternative in the ultimate sense of the word with slowcore, blues and new-school psychedelic rock with a laid-back authenticity of the type that was last popularised on radio stations by genre greats in the mould of Mazzy Star and PJ Harvey. The debut album “I’m Not Sorry, I Was Just Being Me” (2022) then firmly cemented this feeling, even among the pickiest fans of the City Slang canon. This year sees the release of the follow-up album “Big Swimmer”, set to bed itself in among the top spots in the year’s charts. Not that they need it, but the hype might actually be about to arrive.
