Bootleg BBQ
British Underground first hosted The Bootleg BBQ at SXSW in Austin in the early 2000s as a breakout party to get away from all the downtown back-slapping and SXSW hullaballoo that can sometimes fog up your mirror shades. It was always bumper to bumper with insiders, outsiders, locals and passers-by. and witnessed heavenly music from Villagers, Fuck Buttons, The Unthanks, Graham Coxon, Hurray for the Riff Raff, The Proclaimers, Dengue Fever, Dan Auerbach, J Mascis, Laura Marling and so on. As time passed and Austin costs ballooned, The Bootleg BBQ moved to Nashville as part of the Americanafest shindig and became an important staging post for many new acts including Yola and Sturgill Simpson.

Karma Sheen are a London-based band blending the depth of Hindustani classical music with the weight and atmosphere of psychedelic rock. Led by British-Pakistani vocalist Sameer Khan, the group draw from the lineage of the Sham Chaurasi Gharana while channeling the expansive spirit of ’60s and ’70s psych. Sitar, fuzz guitars, driving rhythm sections and hypnotic grooves collide in music that feels both devotional and defiant. The band features multi-instrumentalist Rodrigo Bourganos, drummer/DJ/producer Arun Dhanjal, guitarist Amad Chima, and bassist and visual artist Grisha Grebennikov, each bringing a distinct voice to the collective sound.
Whitelands are an ethereal Black shoegaze band originally formed as a solo recording project by Etienne Quartey-Papafio, and perfect for people who like loud guitars, soft voices and something to lose yourself in. The London based four-piece made up of Michael Adelaja, Vanessa Govinden, and Jagun Meseorisa are at the forefront of the new generation of Black British guitar music. After a few DIY releases, they signed with Sonic Cathedral in 2022 and came to the attention of BBC Radio 6 Music and others with a string of instant classic singles. Their debut album Night-bound Eyes Are Blind To The Day came out to great acclaim in early 2024, in the middle of a huge UK tour supporting their heroes Slowdive.
